Nessun Dorma from Turandot - Puccini
It is not an easy task to reimagine a popular and richly scored aria such as Puccini’s Nessun Dorma for a string quartet! Lucian Moraru has reinterpreted the piece for this ensemble and the result is a successful one. The melody is shared around the parts so there is sufficient interest for
each performer. There are many double stops in the lower parts and the first violin part is particularly challenging with virtuosic runs to make up for the smaller forces. Given the complexity of the arrangement it would be hard to imagine this arrangement being used by musicians of a standard lower than Grade 7. It is therefore surprising to see the inclusion of so many fingerings annotated in the parts.
