String Quartet Arrangements by Lucian Moraru - Ingemisco from Requiem - Verdi

Ingemisco from Requiem - Verdi

I never expected an arranger to produce a successful arrangement of Verdi Requiem for string quartet, but here it is! As with Nessun Dorma, Moraru has
created an interesting reinterpretation rather than a strict arrangement.

The piece contains a pleasing amount of interest for all parts. There is a section for viola and cello duet in the middle of the arrangement which is particularly beautiful and it is refreshing to perform an arrangement in which the arranger has so obviously taken care to ensure that each musician is utilised.

Unlike Nessun Dorma there is a lack of fingering annotations here, but there are useful bowings included. I do not believe that there is a place for these arrangements in a recital situation, but they are perfect for weddings and events where so often a piece of music is requested that may be completely unsuitable for four string players to perform! Lucian Moraru’s arrangements are amongst the best classical arrangements I have performed in this environment. Moraru has arranged many other pieces for the Romanian publisher Son Art Edition and I will look to use his arrangements in future.
